vincent says: a girl, "Terrapene carolina ssp". we found her in the backyard this morning...and both curtis and i were greatly relieved! we usually have a parade of box turtles through our yard in the summer, but this year we saw not one. until today! we were beginning to worry that the extreme heat combined with the lack of rain had done them in...but we worried in vain. phew!i hope she lays eggs back there...

Yay. And look at the bulging muscles in the distal forearm of whoever that is holding her up. They must work out....
If you want her to lay eggs in your yard, you can make your yard an "egg-laying friendly" place. There's a ton of things you can do to encourage animals to take up residence in your yard.
