what i wish i knew

for better or worse, i read "PostSecret" every sunday. i find it alternatingly heartbreaking, scandalous, hopeful & entertaining. usually i read it and forget it, but there is one i read today that settled deep within me. i think it's someone's truest, deepest heart. and i know that the writer of that postcard is not alone.

"part of me is so beautiful

i don't know how to let that part win."

i wish i knew what to say to all of us who feel that; who fight that battle.

I read PostSecret too and usually stay up until 12:01 to see the new ones. . . I even have the book! I've actually printed some off and posted them on my walls as a way to remember I am not alone in feeling that way. I need to send ones of my own! I saw that one and thought the same thing- it's a fight we all fight, but thats the joy of PostSecret . . . no one is alone.

It's strange that that quote from postsecrets reminds me of the npr show I was listening to tonight, This American Life (which I just blogged about) talking about "the voice inside you" and what it says and how it justifies bad things (like just 5 more minutes, 1 more beer, 2 more cookies)....we need to let the beautiful voice win!

It is similar to the grandfather who tells his grandson that there are two wolves that live in our heart, one is kind and one is evil and they are at war. The grandson asks which one will win and the grandfather replies, "Whichever one we feed."
