It's a tale about Rufus, an Eastern red-spotted newt, and the problems that he encounters with coal miners at his home at Potato Knob, and how he is helped by a sweet little girl. Potato Knob is (was) a real mountain in eastern Kentucky that was strip-mined and is now completely gone. Strip-mining destroys mountains! It's horrible! The book's aimed at kids aged four through seven, and it teaches them to respect the Earth, and hate the coal industry. It's a great book for anyone with kids in Kentucky, W. Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and any other coal-producing state. For five bucks (to cover postage, printing, paper, binding) I'll make you a copy and send it out to you. Just e-mail me at phubba@hotmail.com and put "Rufus" in the subject line.
Cheers! And down with coal!

JJ says of all the blogs he reads, yours might be his favorite. Take a bow - he sometimes doesn't even have time to read MY blog! :-)

To J. Vincent Elliott - let me talk to my school principal - how would you like a mass order for our K-3rd graders?

I like Vincent. However, I don't particularly care for multi-syllabic names. Thus, Mr. Elliot, you shall be referred to as Vin or Vince, my preference. I chose to not go with Cent because I don't want The Girls to call you Uncle Penny.
